Meet Leyla Ingalls
An Ohio-based Comedian
Leyla Ingalls is an Ohio born and raised comedian known for her deceivingly innocent demeanor paired with clever joke writing and absurdist stances. She brings a horrific disease to every city she travels to, spreading it like a wildfire… no one is safe. What monstrosity does she possess you ask? A serious case of the giggles.
Leyla is a regular at The Attic comedy club in Columbus, Ohio, and Don’t Tell Comedy shows across the Midwest. She has opened for Joe Gatto of Impractical Jokers, Uncle Lazer of Kill Tony, the one and only Geoffrey Asmus, and has featured for the beloved LeMaire Lee of “Gilly & Keeves.” She has performed on booked shows alongside the great Theo Von, Kam Patterson, and Joey Diaz. She’s had the pleasure of bringing her standup to legendary venues such as the Carpenter Theatre in Richmond, Virginia, the Laugh Factory in Chicago, Vulcan Gas Company Comedy Club in Austin, Texas, and the famous Ice House of L.A. She received the title “rookie of the year” for standup her first year in the game by Columbus Underground in 2023 and has received other titles such as “roast champion” and “top dog comedy competition champion”.
We got the chance to hang out with Leyla and ask her a few questions about her craft:
1. How would you describe your style?
I would describe my artistic style as quirky, witty, and with just enough absurdity delivered with an innocent, airy voice to make even the most outlandish or taboo ideas funny to an audience.
2. What advice would you give to aspiring comedians?
Advice I would give to aspiring comedians is never stop working. Try to write daily, do as many mics as you reasonably can, and remain humble. Even if you are a naturally funny person, the art of performing in front of an audience is a learned skill. The more you master that, the more your jokes will land. Master your stage presence and then audiences will be more on board with all your material. Just never stop trying, this is your life, this is your dream, live it how you want. But remember to not develop an ego. In the wise words of Mac Miller “people start to get worse once they think they’re the greatest.” Be a student of the craft your whole life.
3. How do you stay inspired and keep pushing yourself creatively?
I stay inspired by watching other comedians kill. The energy in a room when a comic is riding the wave they created…it’s magic. Human-to-human connection in the form of laughter is my favorite thing in this whole world. Watching someone who knows exactly how to create that and it’s so organic, it’s overwhelming! It’s similar to how they say rappers go into a “flow state”. Those comics who kill rooms, they inspire me because I’m like “damn, this is how standup should be! This is its highest form!” And I want to get there. I push myself creatively by forcing myself to write for at least 45 minutes daily. Even if I have no new ideas I must at least rewrite an existing joke in a different way. This keeps my brain in the joke writing mode on a consistent basis. I also throw out jokes if I hear them done by someone else. Parallel thought will always exist but I see that as an opportunity to spawn an original thought. It just takes a little more digging.
4. What’s your favorite part about Timeless?
My favorite thing about Timeless is the quality of the products! I can tell what I’m consuming is pure & clean. Even the merch is such high quality. It’s definitely a company that values a healthy lifestyle and I have respect for that.
